NEW LIFE BEYOND MICRO- HYDROELECTRICAL

One of the oldest ways to generate energy is to use tides or currents. Nowadays, when thinking about hydroelectric power arises in thought, the enormous dams that produce energy to feed cities. In Belgium, during the year 2014, the two founders of the company turbulent developed a prototype based on the premise that the technology will have to be small in order to have a great impact.

This prototype has the ability to function in rivers, canals and streams of small depth, just 1.5 meters deep to generate up to 100 kW of energy, enough to feed up to 60 homes. Its installation consists of digging a ditch next to the water course and building a base and reinforced concrete walls in order to create a channel parallel to the water course. After this operation, the turbine is installed.

This solution is indicated for rural areas, where the energy supply is limited or non-existent, thus allowing the sustainable development of these areas with the minimization of environmental impact.

Currently, a turbine is already running in a Chilean community and it is likely that more of these turbines will be installed in the near future.
